Bedrock Buildings builds for two to three clients per year and helps a number of others with design, skill building and other technical assistance. This way, we can guarantee that all of our clients receive the best possible customer service and attention. We will be there for you throughout all stages of your project.
We operate in the Scottish Highlands and focus on building structures with integrity from locally sourced timber, sent to our yard in Cannich. Our builds exhibit harmony with their surroundings, increase occupant well-being and create spaces that connect inhabitants to the natural environment.

In the Scottish Highlands
Located in the Highlands, Bedrock Buildings is sited on a rib of rock above Strathglass and looks towards Glen Affric. The site characterises the ethos of Bedrock Buildings and the free spirit that led to its creation. The site inspires and welcomes those who visit.

Bedrock’s Story
During a long school summer holiday, my young brother and I were inspired to build ourselves a simple log cabin with the guidance of a mentor, Cormac.
I enjoyed building the cabin so much I immediately started another log building, this time a 30 metre log frame timber clad workshop and gym, for my father.
For my master’s thesis, I looked into stress grading round logs using acoustics, which fueled a desire to help develop a recognised grading system for round timber. I grew to realise that round wood buildings offer breathability, strength, carbon storage, tread lightly on the Earth in terms of energy and raw material requirements, they offer good internal acoustic properties, emit no unpleasant or unhealthy chemicals, age beautifully and are intrinsically naturally beautiful. I wanted to keep building….
From the start of my log building interest Cormac had been there to help guide and and consult, offering a wealth of knowledge and expertise. We have been working together for over a decade now on multiple projects, from buildings and design work to instructing on community projects. With his own ambitions to start a log building company and school, he quickly became involved when I started Bedrock Buildings Ltd in 2021. With the help of HIE we were then able to invest and build a covered yard and workshop.
Our aim is to become industry leaders in log construction. We believe normalising log construction is hugely important to achieving a sustainable construction industry. We believe that log buildings create healthy, inspirational and calming environments in which to live and work.
